Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2 Ending Explained

Warning This Article may contain Stranger Things Season 4 final part spoiler

Season 4 of Stranger Things has been its most exciting yet, both literally and metaphorically. In the seven first episodes of the season, we traveled across continents and into multiple dimensions. Each episode lasted at least 70 minutes. The last two episodes combined have a run time of almost four hours. It was an incredible experience. These final episodes answered some of our questions in a definitive way, but also left room for interpretation and teases about the future. Stranger Things Season 4 is now available on Netflix.

Vecna had taken Nancy (Natalia Dyer), into his Mind Lair in episode 1. He allows Nancy to escape and inform her friends about his plan. Along with Steve (Joe Keery), Robin, Maya Hawke, Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Max(Sadie Sink), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Erica (Priah Ferguson), and Erica, they realize that this leaves Max’s physical form defenseless, just like Max was paralyzed after she was taken into his Mind Lair. They realize they can attack him even though he is incapacitated so they gather weapons and travel to the otherworldly dimension.

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), learns that she is responsible for banishing One (Jamie Campbell Bower), to the Upside Down, and turning him into Vecna. The encounter leads Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine), to reveal that his whole plan was to use Eleven in order to contact One in Upside Down. However, Brenner is killed when Eleven uses her telekinetic abilities against her attackers. Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will, Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Argyle, and Argyle(Eduardo Franco), arrive to rescue her.

Eleven uses her powers to discover that Max has made her the last victim of Vecna’s scheme to open a huge gateway between the Upside Down, Hawkins. She then creates an impromptu isolation tank to project herself back to Max using herself as bait. Max’s plan works to some extent, but Nancy, Steve, and Robin are defeated by the Upside Down’s treacherous vines, and Dustin and Eddie are attacked by demo bats. Eddie draws the bats away from Dustin, helping him escape. However, he suffers fatal injuries.

Eleven fails to resist Vecna’s efforts and he confronts her. He reveals that he had a long-standing connection with the Mind Flayer in The Upside Down years back, which led to a grand plan for bringing the dark realm to the Indiana town. Although the details of their symbiosis are not clear, Vecna, as well as the Mind Flayer, have been working together to execute their master plan.

Mike appeals to Eleven in the real world to express his love for her and defeat Vecna’s clutches. She defeats Vecna in the Mind Lair. This allows Nancy, Steve, and Robin to fire shotgun rounds at Vecna before setting him ablaze. Max accidentally made herself vulnerable during the encounter. She suffers broken limbs and then succumbs to a non-responsive coma.

Joyce (Winona Ryder), Hopper, (David Harbour), and Murray (Brett Gelman), manage to defeat a Russian Demogorgon. However, this is accompanied by the revelation that the prison where Hopper was held captive also contained a number of other Demogorgon or demodogs. They decide to go back to the facility to end the deadly threats.

Although Vecna appears to have been defeated physically, he continues to execute his plan. Hawkins is rocked by fiery rifts that open and cause great damage. Hawkins is populated by our heroes. Local authorities claim the earthquake was a major one, but some residents claim it was caused by Satanic cults. In the final seconds of the season finale, ash falls from the sky. The characters discover a spreading of decay and death that mirrors the Upside Down in the nearby meadow. Vecna’s plans were confirmed when they look out at the town. They see strange smoke and flames. Although most of his friends seem to be relieved by Vecna’s defeat, Will feels a chill around his neck. This confirms that he still feels his existence. It also suggests that the villain will return in a nightmarish Hawkins Season 5.
