Michael Giacchino compares his first production with his work as a composer

Michael Giacchino

Michael Giacchino is renowned for his work as a composer, lending his talent to countless projects throughout his decades-long career. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Batman, Spider-Man: No Coming Homeet Jurassic World : Dominion are just a few films that Giacchino has scored, and he knows a Hollywood blockbuster well.

Unsurprisingly, his first significant outing as a director, night werewolf, was successful with the public and the critics. The Halloween special currently holds 91% reviews and 93% audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with 45secondes.fr calling the project a “screaming good time”. Giacchino recently sat down with DiscussingFilm, and the composer/director shared what it’s like to move from the music department to head up the project.

” It’s interesting. Music is about storytelling. For all the years I’ve been writing music, I’ve worked with these incredibly talented directors and helped them tell their stories,” Giacchino said. “When you go from that to directing, it’s not that different, other than you’re dealing with a lot of different departments, as opposed to me only dealing with my department, which is music. He continues, “I now use these tools that I have learned over the years to apply them to storytelling. It’s all about storytelling. Film is the greatest collective art form there is and everything you do when you make a film is geared towards telling a story. I feel like I spent many years really understanding the storytelling process.

Michael Giacchino learned from some of the best directors

Of course, if you’ve worked on Hollywood blockbusters over the past two decades, you’re bound to work with great directors. Giacchino recognizes the talent he rubbed shoulders with and says he learned a lot from them. “I’ve worked with people like JJ Abrams, Brad Bird, Matt Reeves and Pete Docter. All of these people that I’ve been blessed to work with over the years, and also really soaked up every little bit of knowledge I have from all the experiences I’ve had. »

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Giacchino return to the director’s chair in a future MCU project. He’s clearly learned how to run a successful project, especially in the classic horror genre. Lame, the next Marvel movie starring Mahershala Ali, is currently on the hunt for a new director, and Giacchino appears to be a potentially sought-after director. On the contrary, fans should expect to see him return if the characters of night werewolf are extended further into the MCU.

Fans can stream night werewolf, which Giacchino also composed, with Gael GarcÍa Bernal and Laura Donnelly. The Halloween Special is available now on Disney+.
