If we just look at the external design, iPhone 14 series and iPhone 13 series are not that different. The only major change is to the iPhone 14 Pro and the implementation of a notch in the 14 Pro Max. dynamic island shape.
Internally, however, Apple has made a lot of changes to the new iPhone 14 series, it seems. Apple has made several internal changes to the iPhone 14, which make repairs much easier, if recent iFixit teardown videos are to be believed.
Apple is notorious for making design choices that make their devices extremely difficult for anyone other than an Apple technician to repair. Without proprietary tools and machines, it is very difficult for most repair shops to open older iPhone models.
iFixit, which is essentially a tool company and one of the biggest supporters of the Right to Repair movement in the United States, regularly publishes guides, showing how easy or difficult new technology can be for a layman.
During iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone 14, it was found that the model was internally updated, including being able to be disassembled from the front and back. Usually technicians have to remove the screen to access internal components for repairs, but now, the rear window can also be removed in quite a similar way.

Apple doesn’t have the best reputation when it’s about making repairs. He reluctantly began providing repair manuals and loaning tools to replace parts, but his products continue to be built in a way that can be considered difficult to repair.
During the usual teardown of the iPhone 14 by iFixit, the model has been updated internally, in particular being able to be disassembled from the front and the back. Usually technicians have to remove the screen to access internal components for repairs, but now the rear glass can also be removed in a somewhat similar way.
After applying heat and carefully removing the screen, the view of the inside of the iPhone 14 is blocked by a large metal panel, the midframe, with gaps to allow for the camera and some connectors and components to pass through. It is believed that the design change should streamline screen repairs and protect components inside the iPhone that are usually not protected by a metal plate.
Opening the rear glass follows a similar procedure, and again, this is believed to be a massive change from Apple. The back glass is the most difficult element to remove normally from an iPhone and costs users thousands of rupees.
The ruling is a big departure for Apple, as it previously allowed access through the screen as it covers both screen and battery replacement, two common repair tasks. By allowing the rear glass to be removed for general rear access to components except for the display itself, Apple removes the main obstacles to securing the rear glass, if damaged.
iFixit also praised how Apple was able to improve the device’s rigidity and durability without impeding access to some of its internal components.
