For years, Anthony Mackie portrayed Sam Wilson as the Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was presented for the first time in 2014 with Captain America: The Winter Soldieras Wilson and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) developed a close relationship that would continue until Roger’s exit in Avengers: Endgame.
In 2021, Wilson’s story was further developed with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series for Disney+. In the show, fans follow the Falcon as he teams up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), ultimately earning the title of Captain America in the process. Now that the coat has been officially taken over by Wilson, the public is eagerly awaiting Captain America: New World Order with Anthony Mackie in the lead role. It will be a big change for the actor and his character, and director Julius Onah recognizes that. During an interview with Deadline at Expo D23, Onah comments on Mackie taking the lead on the upcoming film and the new set of challenges that await the character.
“It’s going to be a really, really amazing race. It’s a paranoid thriller starring Sam [Wilson] at the center of it all, and he’s now in this position where he’s a leader and he has to face this challenge of what it means to lead a group of people that he really cares about. For Sam, before he was part of a team, but now leading a team is a whole new set of challenges, so his journey in this film is really about that. »
Sam Wilson has been an integral part of the MCU until now; however, its role in Captain America: New World Order will be bigger than ever. Look for Wilson as a major player in the current multiverse saga, as he is now the next iteration of Captain America.
How will be Captain America 4 Differentiate from previous entries
Of course, the next Captain America the film is bound to be different from its predecessors since a new lead took over the role. However, based on Julius Onah’s quotes, we should expect a whole different kind of movie. The filmmaker calls the film a “paranoid thriller,” which may remind audiences The Winter Soldier, as Hydra infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and Bucky Barnes was still being brainwashed and on the loose. The uncertainty in the film leads to a sense of unease throughout the second Captain Americawhich Onah alludes to in his statement.
However, the stakes may be higher than ever in New world order. Marvel’s Secret Invasion The series is slated to arrive next year, and the Disney+ show will follow Nick Fury as he tries to deal with the continued presence of the Skrulls, an alien race of shapeshifters. Since the Skrulls can assume any identity they choose, Sam Wilson might end up having to help Fury during the invasion. Of course, The Leader, played by Tim Blake Nelson, is confirmed to return as a villain for Captain America 4 his character having been last seen in The Incredible Hulk. It could mean a pairing between Hulk and Captain America; however, it is too early to tell now.
Fans will know more as marketing heats up for the film and trailers start dropping. Unfortunately, the wait will be long Captain America: New World Order as the fourth entry is not slated for release until May 3, 2024.
