Actors occasionally become so invested in the production of a movie that they desire to work behind the scenes. The Dating Game, the actress Anna Kendrick’s upcoming directorial debut, suggests she wants to accomplish just that. The recent horror film tells the extraordinary tale of Cherly Bradshaw and Rodney Alcala. According to the legend, Bradshaw participated in the well-known game show The Dating Game in 1978, where she had a choice between three bachelors. She ultimately decided on a man named Rodney Alcala, who turned out to be a psychotic killer who was currently on a murdering rampage. Alcala, who murdered five women, did not choose to date Bradshaw in the end. According to Deadline, Kendrick will produce the next horror movie in addition to playing Bradshaw.

Anna Kendrick is well-known for her parts in Pitch Perfect and Twilight. According to reports, the actress will produce The Dating Game under her Let’s Go Again label. The other Kendrick-led film, Alice, Darling, which has its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, was made by the same production company. Ian McAllister McDonald, who worked as a production assistant on Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and wrote and directed the 2016 love story Some Freaks, created the script for The Dating Game. The film will be financed and co-financed by Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules for BoulderLight Pictures. Rodney Alcala’s potential replacement hasn’t been announced yet, but the story does mention that casting is still going on. It also states that there is no specific release date and that the movie is under pre-production. Kendrick stated in a project statement that she fell in love with the script “the instant she read it.” Additionally, she stated that she related to the “issues about gender and intimacy.”
