It’s no surprise that Dahmer’s series is a hit on Netflix. Jeffrey murdered seventeen young men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of the murders involved cannibalism, necrophilia, and the preservation of body parts, making it one of the most shocking cases in America.
At the launch of his new series, Brennan confessed that he is blown away by the success of the show. But he claims that he’s not sure why people are obsessed with him.
“It’s interesting when horrible stories like that resonate with people. I think it’s a way for people to get closer to the scary things about themselves, to see (be) portrayed on screen.”.
In this context, Brennan affirms that they sought to give the character a human aspect, in addition to his monstrous profile. Thus, she does not consider that they sympathize with him, but that they wanted to reflect the two sides of the same coin.
“I think we show a human being. He’s monstrously human and he’s monstrously monstrous and that’s what we wanted to unpack.“, said. And he added: “We try to show a portrait as objective as possible. we did our homework”.
