Webtoon is getting Dungeons & Dragons

Drizzt, a well-known figure from Dungeons & Dragons, is coming to Webtoon. Brie, the daughter of Drizzt and Cattie-Brie, will star in an official Dungeons & Dragons webtoon that Wizards of the Coast will debut in 2023. Brie (also known as Breezy) will “steal” her father’s famous sword, Twinkle, in the series and set out to discover what it takes to be a hero. Purpah, the author of Suitor Armor, and Ryan LeCount, the artist, will write and illustrate the new, nameless webcomic. R.A. Salvatore, the author of Drizzt, is also helping in the endeavor. As Salvatore wrote on Twitter, “I can only say that I’m working closely with Melanie and Ryan, and they are rock stars in bringing Breezy to life.”

Below is a sample of the new series’ artwork:

An enormous number of young readers frequent the South Korean-based digital comic platform Webtoon. Webtoons can be seen on mobile devices in a vertical scrolling manner via a mobile app or by visiting the Webtoon website. To target younger audiences, franchises are increasingly using webtoons. To attract younger people, Marvel and DC have collaborated with the well-liked webcomic platform, with Batman: Wayne Family Adventures being particularly successful. Additionally, Crunchyroll and Webtoon have collaborated to turn a number of series into animes, including Tower of God.

The Crystal Shard, the first novel to feature the well-known drow ranger Drizzt Do’urden, will be 35 years old in 2023. Drizzt was supposed to be a supporting character in the series, but he quickly gained popularity, and Salvatore turned him into the protagonist of a protracted novel series that has lasted ever since. There have been almost 40 Drizzt-centered books published, with Glacier’s Edge being the most recent, appearing earlier this year.
